Marcus Aurelius Probus (August 19, 232 – September or October 282), better known in Roman historiography as Probus, was a Roman emperor who reigned from 276 to 282.
Probus was originally from the region of Pannonia and is known to have served in the Roman army under Valerian, Gallienus, Claudius II, and Aurelian. As commander in the East, after the death of Emperor Tacitus, his soldiers proclaimed him his successor and elevated him to the imperial purple.
